Finding Light on the Road to Emmaus: Shifting from "We Were Hoping" to Ultimate Hope
How often do we speak of our dreams in the past tense? In Saint Luke’s account of the road to Emmaus, the disciples’ heartbreak is captured in a single, tragic phrase: "We were hoping." This "past tense" of the soul reflects a life where hope feels dead and buried.
But the beauty of the Emmaus story lies in the Stranger who joins the journey, turning dejection into a "burning heart." This post explores how we can write our own names into this narrative, moving away from the hopelessness of what was and toward an Ultimate Hope—one that rests on the permanent blessing of the Risen Lord. Join us as we look at the geographical and spiritual framework of this literary masterpiece and discover how to anchor our hearts in a hope that never fades.
