The Celebration of the Eucharist

Welcome to our parish family. The Holy Eucharist is the “source and summit of the Christian life” (CCC 1324). We invite everyone to join us in prayer, to listen to the Word of God, and to offer thanks. While we are all called to gather, the reception of Holy Communion is a specific act of union with Christ that requires careful spiritual preparation.

The Sunday Obligation

The faithful are obliged to participate in the Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation (CCC 2180). This precept is fulfilled by assisting at Mass, gathering as a community to hear God’s Word and pray.

Note: Fulfilling your Sunday obligation does not require you to receive Holy Communion. If you are not properly disposed, you are encouraged to remain in your pew or come forward with arms crossed for a blessing, uniting yourself to Jesus through Spiritual Communion instead.

Daily Mass

The Church warmly invites the faithful to receive the Eucharist frequently—even daily—provided they are in a state of grace (CCC 1389). However, the strict obligation to receive the Eucharist binds only once a year, preferably during the Easter season (CCC 2042).

Attending daily Mass is a beautiful way to deepen your faith, even on days when you choose not to receive Communion.

Preparing for Communion

To receive Holy Communion worthily, one must be in a state of grace. St. Paul exhorts us to examine our conscience; anyone aware of having committed a mortal sin must not receive the Eucharist without first receiving absolution in the Sacrament of Reconciliation (CCC 1385).

The Eucharistic Fast: Out of reverence for the Sacrament, the faithful must abstain from food and drink (except water and medicine) for at least one hour before receiving Holy Communion (CCC 1387).
